The end ♥

Hi everyone! Today I’m going to talk about my previous persuasive speech, it actually felt a lot different compared to what I did before which is Informative speech, I felt more nervous and uneasy doing my persuasive speech because I volunteered to be one of the first speakers on that week and I also thought that persuading people with their beliefs is harder than just informing them. It was so challenging for me and being able to do it was a great achievement, I must say.

This final speech made me more confident in speaking in front of people that I don’t really know personally. I was able to research more and answer their questions quickly. Though I think that I still do have a lot of areas to improve just like “eye contact”, I remember how I barely look into their eyes because of the paper I was reading from time to time.  I should have memorized everything more so I wouldn’t need to check my paper if I’m saying the right words I was supposed to say. I also realized that being organized with your thoughts and visual aids was a big impact to your audience because that will catch their attention. If your thoughts and ideas are disorganized I think the audience would find it hard to understand and relate to your topic. I doubt if they would even try to listen to what you are saying. Another thing is, conducting research and rehearsing your speech are also very important because that will help you become more prepared for your actual speech. These things will help you prove your audience that you’re knowledgeable about your topic.

With regard to my personal resolutions on how to improve my public speaking skill, I would take time to get to know my audience if possible or do a research or survey about their interests, beliefs and so on, so that I could choose a good topic in which my audience could easily relate on. Choosing the right topic, I think, is the hardest part. Though I do not regret the topic I settled with because I got 96% grade all in all which I think is good enough already.

The things I’ve learned in ENGLISH2 is something I’m sure I could use for a long time even after I graduate because the course I’m taking is requiring me to learn and improve in the field of Public Speaking. I would also like to thank my Professor, Ms. Diane Siriban for pushing all of us to the limit and bringing out the best in us. I never thought that I would learn this much from an ENGLISH class. Her high standard in this subject is often hard to reach but it also gave me reasons to push through and learn. In this subject I would say, my tuition fee is beyond worth it. The topics I’ve listened to with my classmates are all worth listening, the new friendships I had in this class and through twitter are all fun and of course, all the learning that Ms. Diane has imparted us is something I would definitely cherish. I guess this is really the end of this class. Thank you for listening.

10 health benefits of eating chocolate

I’m so thankful about my informative speech last week because it all went well, I couldn’t believe it did. I was too nervous about how it will turn out though I knew in myself that I can get their attention simply because I knew my topic was somehow interesting and I know that I’ve prepared enough for it. I was able to handle that nervousness by looking into their eyes and trying to get some “friendly connection” so I’d be comfortable while giving my speech. Good thing about my delivery of speech was that I was able to get their attention in the beginning because I gave the right introduction which was all about sex and as we all know… Sex sells.  The downside of my speech I guess was being not able to answer all their questions because I didn’t have enough research about the questions they asked me. I wish I could have done more research so I was able to answer them correctly. I hope the next time I give my speech my classmates would be more attentive and interested.

I picked up three questions that I received on twitter from my classmates

First is from

Joey Tabalno -  why do u like chocolates?

Answer:  I like chocolates simply because it makes me happy.

Rizza Namia - among the 10 health benefits of chocolates, is there in particular that you experienced?

Answer:  My favorite benefit of eating chocolate is that it is anti-depressant. Eating chocolate makes me happy more than anything else.

Eunice Austria - What is the right amount of chocolates we need to eat?

Answer:  Well according to my research, 30 g weekly is okay.

Info Speech Outline (revised draft)

 10 health benefits of chocolate

I’d like to inform my classmates about the health benefits of chocolates.

I. Introduction

          — throwing questions about chocolate and sexual life.

          — preview of what I’m going to discuss

II. Body

             A.

History of chocolate and why it is commonly eaten for pleasure.

             B.

Discussion of 10 potential health benefits of eating chocolate

                     1. High in Antioxidants - Cocoa contains flavanols, a type of flavanols that is only found in cocoa and chocolate. Flavanoids are naturally-occuring compounds that occur in plant foods that act as an anti-oxidants and help counteract free radicals in the body.

                                    2. Blood Pressure benefits - Dark chocolate has been shown in studies to lower blood pressure in people with elevated blood pressure.

                                    3. Natural anti-depressant - chocolate containd serotonin, a natural anti-depressant. Chocolate alsostimulates endorphin production, which creates feelings of happiness and pleasure. In fact, one study found that melting chocolate in the mouth produced feelings of pleasure longer than passionate kissing. This may explain why many people reach for chocolate when they are depressed.

                                    4. Cancer Fighter - several studies have found chocolate to be one of the best cancer-fighting foods along with foods like red wine, blue berries, garlic, and tea. Two ways that chocolate works as a cancer fighter is by inhibiting cell division and reducing inflammation, though researcg still ongoing and will probably find additional ways in which choclate fights cancer.

                                     5. Prevents tooth decay - research has found that the theobromine in chocolate prevents tooth decay by eliminating streptococcus mutans, a bacteria found in the oral cavity that contributes to tooth decay.

                                     6. Longer life and less desease - One Dutch study followed 200 men over 20 years and found that those who consumed large amounts of chocolate, both milk chocolate and dark, lived longer and had lower overall disease rates than men who ate little or no chocolate.

                                                  7. High in magnesium - magnesium is an important mineral that helps in the regulation of the digestive, neurological, and cardiovascular systems.

                                     8. Artery cleanup - studies have shown that the anti-oxidants in cacao work like brooms in sweeping plaque out of the arteries.

                                     9. Lower LDL Cholesterol - eating dark chocolate on a daily basis has been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol by as much as 10 percent.

                                    10. Brain health - Many studies have shown that dark chocolates is good for the brain. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University found that it can protect the brain after the strokeby shielding the nerve cells from further damage.Dark chocolate has also been found to improve memory.

Assignment 1 ENGL2

Hi everyone! I will be talking about how I felt regarding our discussion on nervousness. It seemed to me that the discussion was helpful since it gave me ideas why nervousness occur and how the body functions whenever we feel nervous.

My personal tips on how to control nervousness are, you need to develop positive mindset whenever you had to talk in front of people, make sure you have enough time to prepare your speech, and I think it is also important to do something like walking around for a few minutes before you start your speech in order to calm yourself and feel more relaxed.

The possible topics I would like to discuss in my speech are the secrets behind famous and influencial people like Steve Jobs in the business world and Michael Jackson in the music scene.
